See Kim Petras Now, Not In The Next Life

If you don’t want to read the full review, i’ll make it short and sweet for you in the next sentence. If you were on the fence of seeing Kim Petras live, i’ll let you know which side of the fence to go on and it’s whatever side Kim Petras is on. She’s amazing live. If you have the chance to see her live, I highly recommend it.

Kim Petras came to The Observatory North Park in San Diego for her “The Clarity Tour” on a Sunday night. Despite people having work the next day or in the midst of taking finals, people came in droves to see the pop star and rightfully so. Waiting in the crowd for her set to begin, you can tell there was murmurs of excitement dispersed in the venue when the lights came down for the set to begin. The singer made it a memorable performance for everyone in attendance by dividing her set into multiple parts. She gave a mixed bag of treats for the audience with songs off the album Clarity, her Halloween album TURN OFF THE LIGHT, and even performed some songs acoustically.

Kim Petras started off the show in a stunning black dress while singing songs off Clarity, one of the best albums of 2019, in my opinion. She started off strong with songs like “Meet the Parents” and “Got My Number” and you can tell she was feeding off the crowd’s energy. Her dancing left more to be desired but even with that flaw, she knew how to work the crowd. She covered a Charli XCX song that was basically an interlude for her to move onto the second part and my personal favorite of her set.

She moved onto songs from the TURN OFF THE LIGHT album and despite it being more near Christmas than Halloween, I can’t complain. This album was one of my favorites of the year and seeing Kim Petras perform the songs live elevated the songs to a whole new level. “There Will Be Blood” and “Wrong Turn” may be a bit unusual to dance to but you cannot help to at the very least, sway your body to those songs. The only complaint I had was that that casual fans might not contrast from the songs from Clarity to Halloween-esque songs and then to the last part of the set. However, most of the crowd were die-hard fans of Kim Petras and were all on board for whatever she threw their way.

After a dramatic departure when she was finished performing songs off of TURN OFF THE LIGHT, she moved onto the last part of her performance and it was an acoustic set. After she finally bid the crowd farewell, I couldn’t help but acknowledge how great her set was. From all the outfit changes to her iconic “WOO-AH!” during songs, this concert had it all. Despite her performing near the very end of the year, Kim Petras has blasted herself onto my list of best concerts of the year. If you haven’t seen her this year then you need to see her live next year because I know I will.
