On her way to Austin, Texas, we got to speak with the hustling and bustling Lindsey Lomis. Recently graduated from high school and on her first tour ever, the eighteen-year-old singer is having her best year yet We spoke to her when she was on the tail end of her tour as the opening act for Canadian band, Wild Rivers (not to get them mixed up with the water park). Not only did we get a chance to speak to her while she was on the road but we also got to see her live as well.

Spoiler alert: Wild Rivers had a full band when they performed. What did Lindsey have when she opened up for them? Just herself and her guitar. Having no one by your side on stage and warming up the crowd seems like a tall order to deal with but just like Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres, she hit it out of the park. Playing songs through her two EPs Chapter 1 and In The Madness, she sang her heart out and if anyone in the crowd wasn’t onboard with her, they were on the ship now. My favorite song from her set was “Feel”.

You can argue that some of her songs were lacking with just a lone guitar as the only instrumental but Lindsey’s singing was more than enough to cover the bare bone performance. Anyone with eyes could see Lindsey is talented. She may be rough around the edges, she’s still cutting her teeth and the sky is the limit for her. She had enough promise in her set that there will be people looking back at this show and be surprised that Lindsey Lomis was opening up the concert. The only complaint is that hopefully next time she comes to SoCal, she’ll have a backing band to accommodate her and bolster her set.

When we spoke on the phone with Lindsey when she was on the road, we were able to get a deep dive on her life. We spoke about how one of her first endeavors into music was back in sixth grade, she wrote a song called “If Only”, based off a book about a mom who was dying of cancer trying to explain it to her daughter. She wrote the song with the perspective from the daughter. Thankfully all her songs don’t have dark backstories behind them like that song and her songwriting has grown exponentially since then.

We spoke on an array of other topics such as her opening up for Bruno Major by winning a contest and how she even does interviews herself on her YouTube Channel. For how she opened up for Bruno Major, she talked about how she won a new guitar and opened up for him at NYC with last minute submission for the contest. For the interviews (the one with Alessia Cara below), she wanted to do an interview series where she speaks with her peers about where they speak about their music, careers, and life advice. Even based off the phone call we were having with Lindsey, she seemed great at this role with her being so personable.

We wanted to end the interview on a fun note so we decided to ask her a question she’s never been asked before. the question was about who could last longer at each other’s job if they swapped for a day between her and her brother, an aerospace engineer. She said as much as her brother would struggle with being nervous on stage, she could not do what he did and would struggle mightily too in his lab. To end the interview she told her to let her clamoring fans who are fiending for a taste of new music from her to wait not too much longer. As for a full length project on the horizon? She said it might be sooner than you think.
